I Have Set My Face

I Have Set My Face" For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed" (Isa. 50:7). So wrote Isaiah concerning God's suffering servant, and when that suffering servant came to earth "...he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem" (Luke 9:51). Throughout the Word of God, the heroes of faith were men who set their faces like a flint. Caleb "...wholly followed the Lord God" (Josh. read more...

ALL THE DAYS

ALL THE DAYS Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:20. Alway means "all the days," any day, every day. There will be days when we are not conscious of God's presence, when it may seem that He has forgotten us, but He is there although we perceive Him not. Christ lives in the believer's heart and the Holy Spirit is alongside us to help. There are no exceptions—any day, every day, all the days—the promise holds. This day, today, is the day the Lord hath made. Let us read more...

Everyone is shot – Drive!

"Everyone is shot! Drive!" Psalm 109:22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. A company of US Soldiers under heavy fire was trying to make it back to base, many wounded as they stop to get another wounded. The Sargent commands the wounded to drive, as the soldier replies "I am shot!", the Sargent replies back "Everyone is shot! Drive!" May we realize there is jobs to be done, everyone is shot or has been shot. We are not the only one hurting from wounds. So today read more...

Mary meets the Master

Mary Meets the Master Consider the appearance of Jesus to Mary in the garden. First, there was a misery. "Woman, why weepest thou?" There was a mystery. Mary didn't know where to find her Lord. So many today are out of touch with Jesus, not living in vital communion. When Mary recognized him, she called Him Master. The cure for the misery is to see the Master and acknowledge Him. There was also a mission. "Go to thy brethren and say..." When we meet the Master, He commissions us. The read more...

When it doesn’t make sense!

When It Doesn't Make Sense Perplexed, but not in despair (2 Cor. 4:8). A few Christians seem to move through this world on an ever-ascending scale: health, success, happy family life, serene old age, and a glorious exit. But with most of us life does not follow the Alger pattern, and with many it goes exactly the other way, through disappointment, pain, grief, broken dreams, and often into sinister situations that simply do not make sense. These days we are listening to ever-increasing read more...

Willing and Working

Willing and Working Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in your both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Philippians 2:12, 13 This combination makes it all the work of God and yet puts us to work. He does the willing and the working. But we “work out what He works in.” It is a blessed thing to know and to remind ourselves as we move through each day, “God is working in me to will and do of his good pleasure.” But let us remember the read more...

Praying?

“Faith asks no signal from the skies, To show that prayers accepted rise, Our Priest is in His holy place, And answers from the throne of grace.”

JESUS is Lord!

Jesus Is Lord If I were to ask any Sunday-morning congregation, "Do you believe in the lordship of Jesus Christ?" I would get an easy reply in the affirmative. But if I were to ask each individual in that congregation, "Is He Lord of all you are and have?" We might have a very disturbing and revealing morning! Any church gathering can sing, "Bring forth the royal diadem and crown Him Lord of all," but not all who are willing to crown Him with their lips will make Him Lord of their lives. The read more...

The Departing Angel

The Departing Angel And forthwith the angel departed from him. Acts 12:10 The angel had brought Peter out of prison through the gate and safety outside. Now the miracle was over and the angel took his leave. Peter was on his own. God intervenes by His angel many a time to loose our souls from prison. He does the supernatural thing when the occasion demands it. But He does not perform miracles when we can get along without them. He let us do the thing we can do for ourselves, all within read more...
